Today I took my Mum for a drive along the coast road from Barrow to Ulverston and we stopped for lunch at the Old Mill. We were given menus, ordered lunch and were offered drinks in the bar area. We ordered at 1.50 pm and were shown to our table half an hour later at 2.20 pm (the restaurant was reasonably busy but not crowded). While we were waiting in the bar area I heard the woman behind us remarking that if she had known it was going to take so long she'd have ordered something else and when two other ladies were told that their table was ready they seemed relieved so I asked them how long they'd been waiting. 35 to 40 minutes was the reply. Once we were sat down we were waiting between 5 and 10 minutes for our food and when it did arrive it was good and piping hot. I had the all day English Breakfast (eggs, bacon, home made black pudding, sausages, baked beans and fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and toast). This was excellent. Mum had fish and chips and mushy peas which she really enjoyed. I asked the waitress for a cup of tea which was not forthcoming by the end of the meal and so we didn't bother with it but just asked for the bill. The waitress did realise her oversight and apologised and asked if everything was OK apart from forgetting my tea. I said yes but told her that they needed an insectocutor to kill the flies that were around (rather offputting when you are eating). She told us that they were waiting for an electrician to install one (they can't install one themselves as it's a fire hazard apparently). Well at least they are doing something about that. I was tempted to give this place 2 stars because the service was poor, we were kept waiting a long time and there were a few flies in the dining area. However, I got a reasonable response to the fly comment, the staff were affable and the food, when it finally arrived, was very good. We headed off for a cup of tea and an ice cream at Roy's Ices just down the road (see separate review).
