by tom on 23 May 2007Every city by water has at least one of these - a cavernous bar/restaurant that has upmarkets pretentions but is actually quite chavvy. Soulless interior, overpriced (and rubbish) beer, uninspiring clientele. This is a place for people who think San Miguel is exotic.

by TheBigChill on 03 Jan 2008Absolutely appalling unfortunately. Went for the chicken and chorizo linguine with basil oil, garlic and chilli, which to be fair sounds great. What they forget to mention on the menu is that this perfectly decent set of ingredients is then smothered in sweet chilli sauce! Now i don't about you, but the thought of sweet chilli sauce in a pasta dish doesn't really get my taste buds tingling and it is certainly vomit inducing once it's actually tried.
A friend of mine also tried the Marinara, a typical tomato based seafood dish with chilli and garlic etc. Once again he was seriously let down. While he agreed it wasn't anywhere near as stomach churning as my choice, he did say it was completely tasteless, no chilli or garlic in sight and the tomato sauce may as well have come from a Sainsburys Basics tin. Now every now and again you are let down by restaurants for whatever reason, but situations can normally be rectified by the staff trying to smooth over whatever has gone wrong in the best, most apologetic way. The manager treated us as if we had insulted her own mother's cooking, snatched our still full plates off the table and then left us sitting there for 20 mins wondering whether we were expected to pay or not. It was only the excellent service of a young waitress probably on min wage that sorted the ordeal out for us and offered the one word we were all waiting for...sorry.
So, to summarise, my friends and I will never set foot in the place again.

by livi on 08 Oct 2008I think that Banana Wharf is a bubbly restaurant in a great location- the waterfront is spectacular! The restaurant has a lively and friendly atmosphere, with great service. The food is simple but still good quality and at a great price. The decor is very modern and interesting, and the place is full of interesting and pleasant people! I definitely recommend this restaurant- especially if you are a large family with children, as it very child friendly with a great selection of food on the kids menu. If you want fun...try it there!!
